STABILIZE COUNTY PROGRAMS

We must stabilize the funding situation within Lane County. Critical services and systems must not be compromised by financial stability. Residents should have confidence that critical services will be there when they are needed. I will continue to look for solutions and to advocate for funding at a state and federal level. My relationship with Oregon’s Congressional delegation is strong, and I will continue my role in securing funding.

Public safety and health and human services should remain the County’s top priorities. I will utilize my long history with the County to help set priorities and ensure that the people of Lane County continue to receive essential services despite budget constraints.

CHAMPION HUMAN RIGHTS & DIGNITY

I will continue to advocate for full funding of the growing population of senior citizens, utilizing Senior and Disabled Services of Lane County. Our preparation for the graying of our county is essential for each person in our county, regardless of age.

I will continue to champion the human rights and dignity of all citizens through Lane County’s Human Rights Commission.

BOOST ECONOMIC VITALITY

If the quality of life here isn’t what brought each of us here in the first place, it’s certainly what keeps us. It’s time to use that appeal for our economic advantage.

Our surroundings offer the key to our economic vitality. I will work with the hospitality industry and CVALCO to make Lane County the premier destination in the Northwest. With our rivers, lakes and coastline, we have what it takes. I’m prepared to lead this effort.

I will also support the establishment of a county-wide Sports Commission that would become the authority of traditional sports and “extreme sports” events that Lane County is perfectly suited to host.

Our parks and open spaces must not only be preserved, they must be expanded. I will continue my efforts to pursue opportunities that allow Lane County to preserve space for future generations.

A robust and safe transportation system is an important consideration for those considering Lane County for work or play. I will continue to work for the most cost effective solutions that will keep in mind our long-term needs.

OFFER TOOLS FOR SUCCESSFUL YOUTH

Our youth must become an active part our communities. I will work to establish a Board of Youth County Commissioners to further involve high school youth with local government and its roles and responsibilities.

I will continue to champion the juvenile justice system and the issues of mental health treatment and recidivism of juveniles. The need for support for girls is particularly critical. I will use my networks at the local, state and federal levels to make Lane County a leader in the humane and effective treatment of juvenile offenders.
